Once Upon a Summer

The Once Upon a Summer collection was created as a celebration of femininity and the joy of embracing life in the moment. With all of our lives put on hold recently, we’ve collectively been experiencing an almost universal hibernation of sorts. During this time, I know many of us (including me!) have been daydreaming about life after lockdown and all the adventures we’ll embark upon come summer. After all it doesn’t hurt to dream! This collection is the most playful yet and throws caution to the wind. I’m launching it earlier than planned in the hope that it will bring you all some visual joy and inspire you to cast your lockdown outfits aside. Say farewell to days spent in your pyjamas, au revoir to untamed hair and say hello, bonjour or hola! if you will, to dressing up bliss!

This collection will be released in two parts. Part one will see the arrival of six headbands which I’ve embellished with exquisite vintage motifs. Many of the vintage flowers and fruits used for this collection originate from East Germany, officially the German Democratic Republic which was founded in 1949. This means that the vintage floral motifs and faux fruits could date back to the 1950s. While other motifs like the pale blue Anemones originate from Japan. The knot on each headband is made from abaca which is a natural fibre that is extracted from the leaves of a species of banana plant. The abaca material used for this collection is extremely fine and has silk threads woven through it which give it a lustrous finish. Each one is lined with organic cotton and finished off with a War & Drobe label that has been woven from recycled polyester.

When creating this collection, I fell deep into my imagination, conjuring up magical places where they could be worn. This is reflected in the names of the headbands such as Silver Meadow, Faraway Land and Paradise at Night. In reality they are designed to be worn at special occasions throughout the year. The kind of events in life where cherished memories are born and all the details are recorded in our minds for future contemplation. As with all War & Drobe creations each headband from the Once Upon a Summer collection is handmade by yours truly. I hope you enjoy the magic of this new range and that it brings you a momentary escape from these uncertain times.
