Our Story

War & Drobe hair treasures are handcrafted in London by me, Nina Kovacevic founder and creator of the brand. As a child I came to London fleeing the war from former Yugoslavia in the early 90s. It was during this time that my mother taught me the power of fashion and the strength it can bring. The label was named and born from my own mother’s personal story of defiance with the hope of inspiring women to reimagine their own self-expression.

“I grew up with my mother telling me stories about her experiences during the war. She worked as a pharmacist and although there were daily shootings and bombing she would still go to work every day. She’d tell me how she made an extra effort to dress well during this time because it was her way of showing resilience and maintaining a sense of pride and dignity. I often remember seeing her wearing her red Dior lipstick, she was a real head turner.”

Each hair treasure is a one-of-a-kind artwork that is 100% handmade by me, mostly from vintage and antique materials. By slowing down the making process and never mass producing, I want to celebrate the value of handmade work and maintain traditional sewing and crafts(wo)manship techniques. I create each piece with a vision of women falling in love with them and cherishing them for years to come. Behind the label is a passion for making items that are valued like an heirloom and a throwback to a time when women passed them down to future generations. Time is taken to make pieces with a meaningful purpose and by creating them a story is born.
