Czarina

The Czarina collection is an extension of the Summer Garden range which sees vintage trims being remade into an exclusive collection of five pieces. The style of headband used to create the collection is a real labour of love and requires the most hand sewing of all the previous War & Drobe designs. The vintage trims used to make the accessories are sourced in London and are all embellished with either beads and/or metallic thread. By incorporating vintage materials, we are able to wear a rare piece of history while also giving the trim itself a new lease of life. The headbands are all lined with organic bamboo viscose and the labels are made from recycled polyester.

As we bid fairwell to summer, the Czarina collection is here to inspire us to embrace the colder winter days in style and elegance. The name derives from the Russian word which means ‘Female Ruler’ and this was the concept which inspired the collection. The headbands are our crowns and reflect not only our personal style but serve as a reminder of our inner poise and strength as we reign over our own private world’s day to day. Each piece in the collection has a meaningful name which reveals the inspiration behind the range.

The Lakshmi headband is made from a vintage Sari and is embellished exquisitely with silver coloured thread onto turquoise silk. It’s named after the Hindu goddess of good fortune and graciousness amongst other wonderful things. Phoebe is named after the Titan goddess of prophecy whose name means “shining one”. This is reflected in the delicate way the golden coloured beads of the vintage trim catch the light. The Athena headband is named after Greek goddess who is a symbol of wisdom; a valuable quality which any Czarina needs! The Anne Boleyn headband serves as a homage to the sacrifice’s women make in life and for both those who are remembered for them and all those who are forgotten. Lastly since the collection is named after the Russian word for ‘Female Ruler’ it only seemed right to name one of the headbands Anastasia after the Grand Duchess.
