in a land far far away...
Once Upon a Summer…
…in a land far, far away was born a unique collection of hair treasures. Each piece in the garden of floral treasures was lovingly handcrafted using authentic vintage flowers, some of which date back to the 1920s.
When creating the collection my mind wondered to faraway and beautiful places. Each head piece is unique not only in the materials used to create them but also in the stories that shape them into existence. This year, I have named some of the headbands after women who inspire us to aim for the stars and live our most vibrant lives. Magdalena was named after Frida Kahlo who’s first name was Magdalena. A lesser known woman (but no lesser in strength of character mind you!) was Maria Montez. A pioneer of her time, Maria was the first Dominican Hollywood star, known as the Queen of Technicolor. Even though she made waves in the industry she was relentlessly typecast. But she knew her worth and fought for equality, taking producers to court when they broke contract. It’s her defiant spirit alongside her iconic style that inspires me and it felt only right to name one of my pieces after her!
As always I truly hope you love them as much as I enjoyed making them. Here’s to a beautiful summer filled with dreams, joy and dressing up! I leave you with a quote from a stunning book a dear friend of mine gifted me for my birthday which echoes the essence of the Once Upon a Summer collection: “There is nothing lovelier on this planet than a flower, nor more essential than a plant. The true matrix of human life is the greensward covering Mother Earth.”
With Love, Nina x
